GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – It’s officially July, meaning the Fourth of July weekend, and America’s 250th anniversary, is just around the corner. In honor of the celebration, the Green Bay Mayor’s Office announced that a historic ship would be joining the festivities.
The historic tall ship Utopia was built in Wisconsin in 1946 by Peterson Shipbuilders using remaining World War II materials. Utopia stands a physical embodiment of Wisconsin’s deep shipbuilding heritage.

After its completion of a circumnavigation in the 1950s, the ship returned to northeast Wisconsin to serve veterans through the Patriot Racing Project, a nonprofit dedicated to building veteran teamwork through sailing.
