(WFRV) – An Illinois man will now spend the next 36 months in a Wisconsin prison after being sentenced for his role in a stolen check negotiating scheme.
According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Wisconsin, a 47-year-old Illinois man participated in a bank fraud scheme in March 2023 that involved producing a fake driver’s license and other fraudulent documents in the name of another person.

Officials say the false documents were designed to mislead multiple financial institutions into negotiating two stolen checks, one a U.S. Treasury check, another a State of Illinois check, with a combined value of nearly $2,000,000.
Both checks were reported stolen from the mail. Alert personnel at each financial institution are responsible for the Illinois man and his accomplices failing to negotiate either of the stolen checks…
