Child dies after Greensboro crash, mother faces multiple charges, police say

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A North Carolina mother faces multiple charges after one of her children died following a crash in Greensboro on Sunday, according to a Greensboro Police Department news release.

Jamiah Smith, 26, of Locust, was charged with:

  • felony death by vehicle
  • two counts of felony serious injury by vehicle
  • three counts of misdemeanor child abuse
  • two counts of a child restraint violation
  • driving while impaired
  • possessing an open container of alcohol
  • failure to maintain lane control

Around 4:17 a.m. GPD officers, Greensboro fire officials and Guilford County EMS responded to the crash in the area of Freeman Mill Road and the ramp to Interstate-40 West.
