Virtual gift card program designed to support struggling downtown Greensboro businesses: ‘Tries to help everyone’

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Downtown Greensboro Incorporated is launching a new virtual gift card to support businesses in the area.

DGI Interim Executive Director Rob Overman said the nonprofit is creating downtown virtual gift cards called Boro Bucks.

“You put whatever dollar amount that you want to purchase in there, and it generates a digital gift card that goes into your wallet app on your phone just like all the other gift cards that we have,” Overman said. “When you’re shopping downtown, you simply pull your wallet up, and you go to that gift card, and you scan it at the point of sale.”

Patrons can only use the gift card at participating downtown businesses. The organization has 28 businesses participating so far.
