GREENSBORO, N.C. — Typhoon Sinlaku, the strongest tropical cyclone of the year, caused widespread damage across the Northern Mariana Islands this week, leaving residents on Saipan and Tinian facing extensive destruction and ongoing power and water outages, according to aid officials.
The storm ripped roofs from homes and triggered severe flooding, with some hard-hit areas expected to remain without utilities for weeks.
