Man charged with murder in October 2025 Thomasville shooting

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — A Thomasville man is being charged with murder in connection with an October 2025 shooting death, according to the Thomasville Police Department.

At around 6:47 p.m. on Oct. 5, 2025, officers came to the parking lot of the Thomasville Crossing shopping center on 1418 National Highway after getting a report of a shooting.

At the scene, police found Larry Upchurch, 56, of Thomasville, suffering from a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were attempted; however, Upchurch would be pronounced dead at the scene.

Woman accused of ‘premeditated’ killing of father in Davidson County, sheriff’s office says

A person of interest was questioned at the time of the shooting. However, no charges were filed at that time.

The investigation continued over the coming months and eventually, the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office presented the case to a grand jury. As a result, Joshua Ray Elliot, 41, of Thomasville, is being charged with first-degree murder.

Elliot turned himself in on Thursday and was given a $500,00 secured bond…
