Charges dropped in accident involving deputy’s death

FORSYTH COUNTY — All charges have been dropped against Bryan Castillo after the March 7 collision that killed Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Kaleb Mitchell.

Castillo, 19, had been initially charged with second-degree murder, misdemeanor death by vehicle, reckless driving, driving left of center and speeding.

The NC State Highway Patrol released evidence that caused three of the five initial charges to be dropped against against Castillo last week, leaving the reckless driving and speeding charges. As of Wednesday, April 22, all of the charges have been dismissed as there was insufficient evidence to warrant prosecution, as the court record stated “new evidence appears to show that victim was in Defendant’s lane of travel seconds before crash occurred.”…
