Triad middle school teaches children leadership skills

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Reading, writing and arithmetic may give our students a good educational foundation, but it’s not always enough for children to thrive and grow to become successful as adults.

One school in the Piedmont Triad is now teaching leadership skills to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.

“Here at Welborn Leadership Academy of Science and Technology, we’re really trying to bring students other opportunities than just your basic reading and math and science skills,” said Principal Dr. Kevin Wheat. “So, we’re giving them opportunities to expand their leadership potential, learn from other leaders, develop understanding of who they are, and really come to an understanding of how they can impact others in their community, within their school.”…
