GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The heat continues to build, peaking Wednesday through Saturday this week. Dangerously hot conditions with humidity that makes it feel even hotter dominate with some relief possible by Labor Day.
Dangerously Hot Week
Tuesday takes the heat up another notch over the upper 80s to low 90s we had on Monday. Highs soar into the mid-90s for the Upstate with feels like temperatures approaching 100°, especially south of I-85. The mountains are a touch cooler in the upper 80s to the low 90s, but still unseasonably hot.
Highs are running 5° to 10° above normal for early September. Keep cool, stay hydrated throughout the day and take frequent breaks from the heat if you have to be outside today. Overnight, fog develops in the mountain valleys, but it’s mostly clear elsewhere.
Wednesday through Friday intensify the heat pattern. Highs are in the mid to upper 90s for the Upstate with the heat index climbing to 102° to 105°.Some areas south of I-85 look to be even a little hotter and could see some heat advisories issued for the afternoons.
The mountains also heat up, with highs in the low-90s. We near record highs a few times. On Wednesday, the record in Asheville is 91° and we are forecasting breaking the record with a high of 92°. On Thursday, The record high in Greenville is 97° and we are forecasting a high of 96° falling just short while Asheville is forecast to tie the record high of 92°.
Saturday marks a shift in the pattern as a cold front approaches the area. This brings the first real chance for showers and storms all week. It won’t be a washout but there is a chance for showers and storms in the afternoon, so factor that into your Labor Day weekend plans.
