FIRST ALERT – Sunny, Warm Week Gives Way to Much-Needed Rain This Weekend

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A beautiful stretch of sunny, above-normal weather dominates the forecast through Friday before a weather system delivers much-needed rain to the Western Carolinas this weekend.

Clear skies and pleasant conditions create ideal weather for outdoor plans early in the week. Temperatures climb well above normal, with the Upstate reaching the mid-80s and low-to-mid 80s and the mountains staying in the upper 70s to low 80s. The pattern finally shifts Saturday as a frontal system approaches, bringing showers and relief to the drought-stricken region.

Fire danger remains elevated through the week as part of the ongoing drought conditions, though critical fire weather peaks Monday afternoon with gusty winds and very low humidity.

Monday & Tuesday: Typical Late April Weather

Sunny conditions develop across the region with gusty northwest winds making for a noticeably breezy day. In the Upstate, highs climb to the mid-70s with wind gusts near 25 mph. The mountains see highs in the mid-60s with stronger winds gusting to around 30 mph.

Late Monday night brings clear skies and cooler air. The Upstate dips to the low to mid 40s while the mountains see lows settling to the mid 30s. Patchy frost develops after 3 a.m. in the mountains—watch for frost conditions Tuesday morning before 8 a.m. Be sure to protect your sensitive plants. A Frost Advisory and Freeze Warning is in place for portions of western North Carolina.

Bring in potted plants, cover flower beds with light sheets or burlap and water around sunset. The Upstate stays too warm for frost…
