CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– Campers’ quick thinking saved a baby great horned owl from a raccoon in Cumberland County.
The Raven Ridge Wildlife Center said it received a call from someone at the Mountain Creek Campground regarding a baby great horned owl on the ground. The caller initially left the owl because it is normal for them to spend time on the ground while their parents care for them, but something caught their attention.
A raccoon was approaching the owl. The wildlife center said the caller realized the owl would likely not survive the attack, so they quickly placed a milk crate over it and placed a rock on top until they could get help and guidance…
