Minimum size to keep trout in Pennsylvania would rise under proposal up for vote

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is considering raising the minimum creel size limit for trout from 7 inches to 9 inches, in an effort to protect the state’s wild brook trout population.

The Board of Fish and Boat Commissioners is scheduled for a preliminary vote on the proposal at its quarterly meeting Monday, April 27, at commission headquarters, 1601 Elmerton Ave., Harrisburg.

If given preliminary approval Monday, it would go on for final rule-making as early as July and take effect Jan. 1, 2027…
