Sofia Vergara revealed in an interview with Spanish newspaper El País that the reason her marriage to Joe Manganiello ended was because they had differing views on having children. Vergara, who is 51 years old, expressed that she didn’t want to be an “old mom” and that she is ready to be a grandmother, not a mother.

The “Griselda” star explained that her marriage broke up because her husband, who is younger, wanted to have kids while she did not. She believes it wouldn’t be fair to the baby to have an older mother. While she respects women who choose to have kids later in life, it is not something she desires for herself. Vergara had her son, Manolo, at the age of 19 and is now ready to embrace the role of a grandmother rather than a mother.

Vergara had one son with her ex-husband José González, and they split in 1993, two years after their son was born. Even if she becomes a grandmother, Vergara is determined to prioritize living her own life. She expressed that when her son becomes a dad, he can bring the baby to her for a while, but she will ultimately give the baby back to him and continue with her own life.

If Vergara finds love in the future, she stated that her partner will need to already have children of their own. She added that she is almost in menopause and that it is the natural way of things. In July, Vergara and Manganiello announced their divorce after seven years of marriage, requesting privacy as they navigate this new phase of their lives.
