Kacey Musgraves Opens Up About Past Feud and New Collaboration with Miranda Lambert

Country music star Kacey Musgraves, 37, recently reflected on her complicated history with fellow artist Miranda Lambert and shared how the two have moved past their previous tensions. Speaking to Variety, Musgraves described their rumored “beef” as “grass-fed, grade A,” acknowledging that their differences were very real.

However, the singers have now reunited creatively, surprising fans with a duet on Musgraves’ upcoming album, Middle of Nowhere. “We’ve come together after years of really, honestly, not being friends,” Musgraves said, emphasizing the authenticity behind their new song.

The inspiration for the collaboration came unexpectedly from social media. Musgraves recalled seeing Lambert riding a horse on Instagram and thinking, “Well, I guess we have two things in common: horses and divorces.”

That sparked the idea for the duet. “I hadn’t spoken to her in years, but I reached out and said, ‘Hey, I have this idea.

If anybody would get it, it would be you.’ She was down,” Musgraves explained.

She added that while they’re not aiming to rekindle a full friendship, writing the song together felt like the right move.

Musgraves also revisited the origins of their past tensions, recalling in an earlier NPR interview how she co-wrote “Mama’s Broken Heart,” a song Lambert recorded in 2013. The track was initially intended as Musgraves’ own single, but it was pitched to Lambert without her full consent, creating a “tricky situation.” Despite the complications, Lambert embraced the song, which went on to become a hit.

Their new joint effort, “Horses and Divorces,” will be featured on Musgraves’ sixth studio album, set for release on May 1. This collaboration marks a notable chapter in both artists’ careers, showcasing their ability to move beyond past conflicts and create music together once again.
