Savannah Guthrie’s unexpected early exit from Wednesday’s Today show left viewers and colleagues alike seeking answers during the live broadcast. “It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness,” she shared. “I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not.
But I can’t not come back because it’s my family. I think it’s part of my purpose right now.”
She described the show’s team as her “greater family” and expressed that her return was motivated by the desire to find joy even amid hardship. “My joy will be my protest.
My joy will be my answer,” Savannah said. “When it’s not joyful, I’ll say so.”
On Wednesday, just 90 minutes into the broadcast, Craig Melvin informed viewers that Savannah needed to leave early due to an appointment unrelated to her mother’s case. A source later confirmed that her departure was not connected to the ongoing investigation.
