Man accused of stabbing, killing man while trying to light Las Vegas encampment on fire

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man is accused of stabbing and killing another man who was trying to stop him from setting homeless encampments on fire near Downtown Las Vegas, according to a declaration of arrest.

Alex Quintana-Taurez, 36, faces charges of open murder with a deadly weapon and arson in the fourth degree.

Around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, Metro police responded to a report of a man who had been stabbed in a vacant lot in the 2400 block of Hinkle Drive near Eastern and Owens avenues.
