Heated exchange during city council public comment over Henderson animal shelter

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Henderson City Council meeting Tuesday heated up after a woman stepped up during public comment to criticize funding surrounding Animal Protection Services. That woman identified herself as Melissa Trasatti.

“Who decided to move animal control away from the police department, and hijack the renovation funds for an office building for code enforcement? Was it you, Mayor? Someone must take credit,” Trasatti, who advertised herself online as a professional pet sitter in Henderson, said.

The animal shelter was previously under the police department. Mayor Michelle Romero moved it under code enforcement.

Earlier this year, during a mayoral debate, former Police Chief Hollie Chadwick pushed to put the shelter back under police.

“They are struggling right now. I don’t know if you’re aware, they haven’t had heat all winter in that animal shelter,” Chadwick claimed…
