Rain chances and gusty winds expected in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A windy and cloudy Saturday ahead of this shortwave to the west of us, bringing in weather to the Desert Southwest. This low-pressure system continues to slide to the east through tomorrow, bringing in chances for rain this evening.

While Las Vegas is looking at a 60% of showers, chances drop to around 40% or less as we move south of the 1-15 corridor.  Now bigger cells with embedded thunderstorms are a possibility across Esmeralda, Central Nye, and Inyo counties, where convection looks best. With our mountains intercepting most of that moisture again, snow showers are likely once again for Mt. Charleston at over 7,000ft.

Winds have also been pretty gusty and these winds have not let up. We’ve been seeing gusts up to 25-35 at times across the region, with the stronger winds at 55 mph outside of town. Expect winds to stick around through the start of the workweek as well. This system has brought cooler temperatures, putting us below normal with the cool low 70’s until Monday…
