Trenton, N.J. — Two brothers from Miami are potentially facing life in prison after a federal jury convicted them of conspiring to distribute nearly 50 kilograms of cocaine that was transported from the Dominican Republic to New Jersey.
33-year-old Nelson Santos Munoz and 34-year-old Amauris Santos Munoz were convicted on September 21st on one count each of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
49 Kilograms in Three Suitcases and a Backpack
Federal authorities said on January 26th, 2023, Woodbridge Police stopped a vehicle carrying the brothers and a third individual.
Inside, investigators found approximately 49 kilos of cocaine packed in three suitcases and a backpack, individually wrapped in cellophane with coffee grounds layered between the packages.
