Early morning shooting in Halawa hospitalizes victim

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Police have opened an attempted murder investigation in Halawa after a man was shot in his pelvis area early Tuesday morning, Jan. 23.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the incident happened just before 1:15 a.m. when the victim was allegedly shot by a male suspect wearing a cream-colored hoodie.

HPD said the suspect then fled the scene.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said the victim, 55, was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

This comes just a day after Hawaii Gov. Josh Green addressed the growing problem of gun violence in the islands during his State of the State speech.

“We must do more to protect our communities from the threat of violence from those who have no business possessing firearms,” the governor said on Monday, Jan. 23.

The last known shooting reported by the Honolulu Police Department happened in Waianae on Saturday, Jan. 20.

During that incident, a bystander was unfortunately killed by a stray bullet in an alleged shooting between two parties.
