Volcano alert level raised to watch amid precursory activity at Kilauea

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Kilauea is showing renewed signs of activity, and scientists say another lava-fountaining episode could begin this week.

The U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory raised Kilauea’s Volcano Alert Level from Advisory to Watch and its Aviation Color Code from Yellow to Orange Sunday night in response to low-level precursory activity within Halemaumau.

Kilauea Message 2026-04-20 21:20:45 HST. HVO has raised the Volcano Alert Level for Kīlauea from ADVISORY to WATCH, and the Aviation Color Code from YELLOW to ORANGE, in response to episode 45 precursory low-level activity within Halema’uma’u.
