HONOLULU (KHON2) — A world-renowned waterman was honored for his life’s work on May 16. During a ceremony, the Waikiki Film Awards presented multi-talented surfer and lifeguard Brian Keaulana with the Hawaiʻi Lifetime Achievement award.
“When I look back on my life, I don’t see a career in film. I see a life shaped by the ocean, by my ohana, by my community, by the values that raised me,” Keaulana said, who was born and raised in Mākaha.
He was recognized for revolutionizing ocean safety practices, including the use of jet ski rescue techniques.
“This event is a powerful tribute to a living legend whose impact spans ocean safety, film and community,” said Ceci Hamao, OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel General Manager. “We are proud to host this celebration at the Beachcomber – where culture, creativity and connection come to life.”…
