Houstonians already know the traffic bottlenecks along the region’s major highways. During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, many of those same roads could be clogged with even heavier congestion as 500,000 visitors arrive in the city in the coming weeks.
Much of the pressure is expected on highways and major surface streets connecting to NRG Stadium and the FIFA Fan Festival in East Downtown.
