HOUSTON (KWTX) — A 62-year-old Mexican national living illegally in Houston admitted to stealing more than $278,000 in government benefits over a 13-year period by using someone else’s Social Security number, according to federal prosecutors.
Ana Silvia Garcia used a Social Security number belonging to a U.S. citizen starting in 1992, Acting U.S. Attorney John G.E. Marck confirmed. She submitted immigration petitions for family members and obtained disability and Medicare benefits under the false identity.
Garcia received the funds from 2013 through February 2026, authorities reported. She was not entitled to the benefits…
