130-year-old Texas dance hall listed for $1.8M between San Antonio, Houston

Dance halls remain an important piece of Texas culture, equally as significant as the football fields or barbecue pits. They’re places where, for over a century, folks have gathered to dance, drink and commune together over live music. Some of the oldest dance halls are still going strong in the Lone Star State, but a few others are looking for new beginnings.

Almost one year since Kendalia Halle was listed for sale in the Texas Hill Country, another historic hall has hit the market, this time 100 miles east of San Antonio. Schulenburg’s Senglemann Hall, originally built in 1894, has now been listed for $1.795 million, courtesy of Bubela Real Estate.

“Originally established as a social hall and beer garden, Sengelmann Hall has been meticulously maintained and restored, showcasing its original charm and character,” the listing reads. “The 4,000-square-foot dance floor and Victorian interiors are original. This historically preserved Texas dance hall, featured in Texas Monthly, boasts over 10,000 square feet of versatile space with endless potential for a variety of commercial uses.”

The two-story building features a spacious main hall, a beer garden and private dining/event spaces. Artists such as Asleep at the Wheel, James Hand, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Crystal Gayle and Billy Joe Shaver have all performed at Senglemann Hall over the years, according to the listing…
