Why all-you-can-eat barbecue ribs disappeared from Houston restaurants

Nowadays, when you think of Houston barbecue, names like Pinkerton’s, Killen’s and Gatlin’s stand out. But back in the 1990s, the names were different: Pappas, Demeris, Goode Company and Luther’s were the go-to choices when Houstonians needed their fill of brisket and ribs.

All but Luther’s are still around, though some physical locations still exist as Pappas Bar-B-Q, which acquired Luther’s in 2005.

In one commercial from 1990, the AYCE pork rib deal was advertised for $7.49, while a 1997 spot had upped the price to $9.99…
