After losing its hospital to Harvey, Channelview finally got a new health center

Hurricane Harvey devastated parts of East Harris County nearly a decade ago, and for many residents in Channelview, one of the biggest losses never came back: their hospital.

On Friday, Harris County leaders officially opened the Channelview Foundation of Hope, a new health and social services hub designed to help fill that gap.

The new facility, located along the East Freeway in Channelview, will operate as a one-stop center offering health care, workforce development, mental health support, housing navigation and other social services to residents in East Harris County.

According to Harris County Public Health and Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia,  the Channelview area continues to face some of the highest health disparities in the region, an issue that worsened after Hurricane Harvey forced the closure of East Houston Regional Medical Center in 2017…
