GARDEN GROVE, CA — On Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 11:32 p.m., Garden Grove Police Department officers responded to a call for medical aid on the 8800 block of Hewitt Place regarding an individual bleeding from the head.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a 17-year-old female victim, identified as Janely Gutierrez of Garden Grove, with severe head injuries. Paramedics transported Gutierrez to a nearby hospital in grave condition.
During the initial investigation, officers determined that Gutierrez and her live-in boyfriend, 18-year-old Garden Grove resident Ethan Vidal, were involved in an altercation prior to the call.
