Limestone County Commission approves land purchase for new animal shelter

ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) — On Monday, the Limestone County Commission approved the purchase of land from the city of Athens to build an animal shelter.

County leaders moved forward with plans for a larger animal shelter to replace the overcrowded rented veterinary clinic currently being used as the county shelter.

The city of Athens sold 3.5 acres of land on Jefferson Street to Limestone County for $355,000 for the animal shelter that District 3 Commissioner Derrick Gatlin said will possibly house Athens animals…
