City of Decatur sees over 45 percent drop in crime, report shows

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – The Decatur Police Department announced Monday that overall crime rates have decreased across the city.

According to DPD, throughout the first quarter of 2026, violent crime within the city limits has dropped by 45.16 percent, and property crime has dropped by 6.42 percent.

The police department said that earlier in the year, Decatur experienced a “concerning number” of shooting incidents. Due to this, Chief Torry Mack established a strategic enforcement initiative and launched a Special Enforcement Team in mid-January…
