State objects to convicted child killer’s request for execution extension

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The State of Indiana has filed an objection to a request to extend the execution date for a man convicted of killing two children in Vanderburgh County.

Counsel representing Jeffrey Weisheit filed a motion for extension last week requesting an additional 15 day extension to file his response to the state’s verified motion to set an execution date. Documents filed on behalf of his attorneys state that this time would be necessary for his legal counsel to respond due to deadlines they are facing on other cases.

The State of Indiana issued an objection to the motion, stating that Weisheit’s “attacks on his convictions were completely exhausted within the last month”. The state also said that Weisheit’s request for 15 days in addition to the 15 days provided by Appellate Rule 34(C) is unreasonable and adds unnecessary delay…
