Greenfield father sentenced to 3 years after toddler found alone in snow suffering from frostbite, hypothermia

GREENFIELD, Ind. — A Greenfield man has been sentenced to three years in prison after his 2-year-old child was found standing alone in a diaper and suffering from severe hypothermia and frostbite.

Online court records indicate that Logan Nickolas received a five-year sentence in Hancock Circuit Court. Since two of those years were suspended, he will serve a total of three years behind bars.

On July 9, he agreed to plead guilty to a Level 5 felony for neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury. In exchange, the state dismissed a Level 6 felony for neglect of a dependent that had been pending against him in the case.

According to previous reports, Nickolas was arrested last year after a woman spotted a child standing in the snow with only a diaper while bitterly cold temperatures plummeted to 13 degrees in December 2025.
