Juror who caused mistrial in Indianapolis murder by malnutrition case makes first court appearance

INDIANAPOLIS — The juror who caused a mistrial in the Toni McClure murder by malnutrition trial was in court Thursday to face a charge of indirect contempt of court.

McClure is charged in the death of her 5-year-old daughter, Kinsleigh Welty. The prosecution is seeking a life without parole sentence.

Court records say that on June 22, outside the courtroom, the juror allegedly approached and talked to a witness, specifically asking the witness’ opinion on an appropriate sentence. This conversation was overheard by at least one other juror and was seen by at least one additional juror…
