INDIANAPOLIS — Late Sunday afternoon, after a robbery had been reported in the parking lot of a steakhouse in the 10300 block of U.S. 36 in Hendricks County, an Avon police officer attempted to pull over a white Dodge Charger occupied by two juveniles for speeding.
The youths fled, pulling a U-turn in a neighborhood cul-de-sac and driving across a front lawn before re-emerging onto U.S. 36 west of Ronald Reagan Parkway and then proceeded to lead the officer on a wild chase across the Hendricks County line into Marion County, through Speedway and into Indianapolis before crashing in Haughville.
At various times during the chase, stop sticks were deployed, tires and stoplights blown, speeds approached 100 miles per hour, and the pursuing officer was denied permission to attempt a PIT maneuver on crowded westside streets that could have sidelined the fleeing vehicle with uncertain consequences for other drivers…
