Man in court for alleged attempted carjacking outside Indianapolis blood donation center

INDIANAPOLIS — Court records allege that a man stole a gun from his cousin, then shot at two women in a parking lot, then tried to disarm two police officers while he was taken into custody.

40-year-old Maximilian Coleman faces 10 charges, including nine felonies:

  • Attempted armed robbery
  • Attempted battery by means of a deadly weapon (2 counts)
  • Attempted disarming of a law enforcement officer (2 counts)
  • Resisting law enforcement causing moderate bodily injury
  • Theft
  • Pointing a firearm at another person
  • Criminal reckless with a deadly weapon
  • Resisting law enforcement (misdemeanor)

On April 13, 2025, around 12:45 a.m. one woman was helping another woman inflate a flat tire inside the gated parking lot behind the Versiti Blood Center, 3450 N. Meridian Street. Coleman allegedly tried to squeeze through the back gate on Salem Street, had a gun and demanded the women give him a car. Court records say Coleman fired a couple of shots, leaving a bullet hole in a car. He apparently then dropped the gun and ran off.

Police found him a block away at 34th and Illinois Streets. Officers say he refused to stop. They deployed a taser. As two officers tried to subdue Coleman, he allegedly tried to take the taser from one officer and then reached for the gun of another officer before he was finally handcuffed…
