Some taxpayers may qualify for potential COVID-era tax refunds

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A recent court case is drawing attention from tax professionals who said some taxpayers could eventually recover money paid in IRS penalties and interest during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The case, known as “Kwong,” focuses on whether the IRS properly handled deadline extensions for tax filings and payments between 2019 and 2022. Tony Huffman, with Huffman & Company, CPA, P.A., said some taxpayers may have been charged penalties or interest incorrectly.
