MISSING IN MISSISSIPPI: Robert Earl Sheriff, Hinds County

JACKSON – The Jackson teacher and father of five left his sister’s home two days before Christmas and was never seen again. His family suspects foul play.

Robert Earl Sheriff was headed out late on Dec. 23, 1997, bound for his own house in the 4100 block of Plaza Street. He never got there.

The next morning, a passerby spotted his gray Dodge Dynasty partially submerged in Hanging Moss Creek, near a bridge on Hanging Moss Road. Searchers combed the swollen creek through Christmas, according to The Clarion-Ledger, and pulled two of his jackets from the water. Sheriff’s body was never found…
