MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Property values in Madison County are steadily rising this year, which officials said is largely driven by the construction of the new Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center.
According to officials, the county’s total property value skyrocketed by more than $1 billion this year, which is a 53% increase. That total worth is used to calculate what homeowners owe in property taxes.
JTRAN union contract talks remain stalled
“I would hesitate to say that everybody’s tax bill is instantly going up. I wouldn’t say that at all. There are actions that can be taken by this board which will mitigate the effect of the increased property values,” said Madison County Administrator Greg Higginbotham.
Officials hope the influx of property tax revenue from the data center will ultimately allow for a tax cut for local residents.
