Florida man arrested after blocking train and attempting carjacking

STAR, Miss. (WJTV) – A Florida man was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly driving an SUV onto railroad tracks, stopping a freight train, and attempting to carjack a passing motorist, authorities said.

According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, Ronnie Percy Holmes, 22, of Florida, was taken into custody on charges of attempted carjacking and obstructing a railway following the incident in the Star community.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on October 3, 2026, dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a red Chevrolet SUV with Florida license plates traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 49, the sheriff’s office said.
