BRANDON — Two people were fatally shot Friday afternoon during a dispute over family land in Rankin County, and the suspected gunman was later found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a hours-long SWAT standoff, authorities said.
Walter E. Birdsong Jr., 62, and Amanda L. Birdsong, 43, were killed in the shooting on the 1400 block of Monterey Road. The suspected shooter, Kurt Tyler Birdsong, 56, was found dead inside a bathroom of the residence after deputies breached the home, according to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office.
