Jackson councilman concerned about burned homes in city

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Blighted properties remain a major concern in Jackson, and one city councilman said the issue is only getting worse.

Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, said he is frustrated by the growing number of burned and abandoned homes scattered throughout the city. According to Stokes, many of the structures have remained standing for years, creating safety risks for nearby residents and damaging neighborhoods.

“This is a problem citywide,” he said. “Whether you’re talking about homeless setting fires, people mad at the world setting fires. Once these structures are set on fire, they’re now standing forever.”
