The Jersey City Council unanimously approved (9-0) a resolution seeking a fair contract for Jersey City Medical Center resident physicians and fellows at Wednesday’s nearly four-hour meeting.
“This is the only remaining hospital in Jersey City, so any patient who is pregnant, giving birth, or experiencing a gynecologic emergency in this city and much of the surrounding area is cared for by a team of just 11 OBGYN residents,” Dr. Alexa Walsh, an OBGYN resident physician at JCMC said in a statement.
“We’re proud to serve this community, but when we’re working these hours, carrying this level of responsibility, and still struggling to make ends meet, that’s simply unsustainable.”
