The Jersey City Council appointed Sean Nolan as new tax collector, a role he served in for Passaic and Sayreville, in a close vote for a four-year term in the final hour or so of last night’s nearly six-hour meeting that again largely focused on budgetary issues.
“I vote aye, congratulations Mr. Nolan,” said Ward B Councilman Joel Brooks.
“10.49, I’m gonna abstain only because with 300,000 residents, I believe we didn’t search hard enough within our city. This is no knock to Mr. Nolan, I’m pretty sure he’s qualified and congratulations,” expressed Councilman at-Large Michael Griffin.
That prompted Councilman at-Large Rolando Lavarro to ask if Nolan is a Jersey City resident and if residency is required for the tax collector…
