Heavy rain caused unexpected floods across parts of South New Jersey on Thursday evening, leaving many roads impassable, damaging vehicles, and disrupting travel at various airports, including Philadelphia International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.
CNN notes that a level 2 of 4 risk of flooding rainfall is in place Thursday from Washington, D.C., into parts of New York — including New York City — and Connecticut. A Level 2 of 5 risk of severe storms is in place from northeastern Pennsylvania, south into Baltimore and Northern Virginia.
“It’s from the rain coming down so hard that it’s blocking the sewage system, and it has raised up to three feet, four feet, and it just went down,” Sara O’Brien, the founder of Community Rocks, a community art center in Gloucester City, New Jersey, told 6ABC of the flooding. “Every single time it rains this hard now, every time it floods, I have to call out the guards; all the kids come out.
