The National Transportation Safety Board has completed its fact-finding investigation into two fires outside PATH’s Grove Street station in Jersey City that left five PATH employees injured.
On May 8, 2025, during the morning rush, a tunnel fire in a third-rail power cable near Grove Street station in Jersey City caused heavy smoke and resulted in police evacuating passengers from a train and the station. The fire was put out with extinguishers but reignited six minutes later.
PATH employees who tried to extinguish the second fire and help passengers were hospitalized for smoke-related injuries. The fire occurred in a cable that feeds electricity to the third rail, which powers trains, and was exacerbated by built-up debris, according to the report…
