BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The viral detention of a Battle Creek teenager continues to spark debate across West Michigan as new scrutiny is being placed not only on body camera footage that has circulated widely online, but now on the responding officer’s own written police report obtained by News Channel 3.

For days, community members have questioned whether Battle Creek police officers acted appropriately when 16-year-old Jeremiah Spearman was stopped, physically detained and later handcuffed during a June 14, 2026 encounter near Greenwood Avenue and Hubbard Street.
