Not every call involves flashing lights and handcuffs… sometimes it’s a runaway cow!
At approximately 9:30 this morning, Van Buren County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reports of a loose cow near Red Arrow Highway and Paw Paw High School. Before deputies arrived, several good Samaritans stayed with the wandering cow, doing their best to keep an eye on it and help keep the area safe until law enforcement could take over.
When deputies arrived, they located the adventurous bovine near the school ball fields and quickly coordinated with Van Buren County Animal Control and a member of our Mounted Division in an effort to safely capture the animal. While the cow wasn’t quite ready to cooperate—and made a quick dash back across Red Arrow Highway into a nearby cornfield—the team remained focused on keeping both motorists and the animal safe…
