Crossing guard hit by car, Kalamazoo elementary school says

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A crossing guard at a Kalamazoo elementary school is in the hospital after he was hit by a car Monday afternoon, the school said.

As Milwood Elementary was dismissing students after classes, a crossing guard was hit by a car. It happened at the intersection of Lovers Lane and Foley Street. The school said it has been concerned about that stretch of road for years.

“Over the past 5 years, we have raised our concerns with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety about this stretch of road. We are hoping that a successful solution can be found to help ensure safety to our Students and community,” Milwood Elementary wrote in a Facebook post .

The crossing guard was taken to the hospital, where doctors determined he has two broken bones and will be having surgery Tuesday. Although Milwood Elementary said the community was interested in creating a GoFundMe, the crossing guard’s mother told the school he is “adamant” that he does not want one but “would love visitors or cards,” the school wrote.
