Three Rivers secures Wolverine wrestling title

NILES — Three Rivers nearly doubled-up Plainwell in total points at the Wolverine Conference Championships on Saturday. The end result was 234.5 team points for the Wildcats as they ran away with the conference title.

Plainwell finished second with 130, Paw Paw was third with 119.5 points. Vicksburg finished fifth with 99, Otsego came in fifth (76.5), Niles was sixth (75), Sturgis finished seventh (74) and Edwardsburg came in eighth (60).

The league championship was the first for Three Rivers since 2004 as the Cats won all seven of their league duals plus the conference title. Additionally, head coach Jeff Smith was selected as the Coach of the Year for the league.

For the day, Three Rivers won five individual conference titles. Jak Monroe (120), Ethan Moreland (126), Landon Moreland (150), Louis Smith (165) and Jaxon Smith (190) each brought home first place.

Ayden Keller (132), Carter Hensley (138), Braylon Faile (157) and Sammy Reynolds (215) each finished second in their weight class. Evan Harper (144) and Jeremiah Detwiler (175) both finished third.
