UNION CITY, Mich. — Union City is getting a new tornado siren following a deadly tornado on March 6.

The Village Council of Union City approved the purchase of a new outdoor tornado warning siren in conjunction with a Calhoun County 911 Program, according to village officials.
“Our current siren is not a true tornado siren and has limited coverage,” village officials said in a Facebook post on Tuesday. “This is all about making sure residents have as much warning as possible to take shelter when severe weather approaches.”
The new system will be mounted higher and designed specifically for severe weather alerts to provide better coverage across the village. It will be triggered by both Calhoun County 911 and Branch County 911 as the village crosses county lines…
